• IAR: International Alpaca Registry (sometimes also used as a shorthand for 'IAR number')
• IAR number: the unique identification number for a registered alpaca, associated with their ear tag and pedigree certificate

Breeding, pedigrees and progeny

• Spit off: Once a female falls pregnant, it will react to an approach male by spitting. Breeders use this simple test to see if a mating has been successful.
